A Photo Sings a Thousand Words.

Have you ever heard a voice so beautiful that the entire world disappeared as you listened? If the answer is no, then you probably haven’t heard of Eve Stafford. Eve is a Soprano, which is someone who can sing the highest notes (and arguably, the most heavenly). I’ve always admired Eve, not just for her ability to serenade souls. We have some things in common, such as attending art college and appreciating the creativity involved in our respective crafts. So, when I had the chance to approach her to take some media shots, I was very excited to see how we’d work together.

During our initial discussion, we agreed that we wanted to create something unexpected and unique. Another thing I liked about Eve was her willingness to break away from convention and challenge herself to explore the unexpected. We discussed how we could experiment with different poses and angles to achieve some very interesting results. It’s easier to encourage a creative-minded peer to step out of their comfort zone because at the end of the day, Eve and I had the same goal; to exhibit the untraditional side of a Soprano.

Instead of a classic plain backdrop, I suggested we use the old Krupps building for her shoot. This location provided a lot of natural light and space to allow Eve’s powerful presence to fully shine.

She usually performed at stunningly detailed venues, such as churches, weddings and concert halls. Her glamorous style fit into these settings perfectly. As this was for promotional photos, Eve wore t gorgeously embellished headbands and stunning gowns to the shoot. The Krupps building was an entirely different scene, presenting no more than the bare bones of the space. The juxtaposition of Eve’s elegant presence against this very raw environment added an intriguing layer of depth to the photos.

I shot some of the portraits in black and white to enhance some of the timeless quality of Eve’s beauty and grace. With photos that are used for personal branding, I believe it’s best to have as many options as possible to showcase your true essence. Regardless of who or what these photos are for, I take pride in capturing results you feel confident with.

When editing these photos, I subtly retouched the photos to enhance the drama of Eve’s features and the intricate details of her glamorous outfits. The results of the shoot didn’t just show how beautiful Eve was, they strongly emphasised an artist who confidently allowed her vulnerability, strength and versatility to shine through. She was an absolute dream to work with and I very much hope we do so again in the future.
